17th Jan Lavendar Visit

Yesterday was an eventful day, there’s a total of 3 events falling on the same day.. first was our regular home visit, second was CSC Day, and lastly, Old AMK uncle’s youngest daughter wedding!!!

Cindy, Jian Cheng, Zhi Xian, Hui Yi and Doris [ME!] (^^,) v went to lavendar uncle house for visit.. we had a rather hard time locating uncle’s house, cause i forgot to check the address(apologies) and uncle’s block is undergoing some re-paint work.. so zhi xian’s ‘symbol’ (paint splash mark) was ‘erased’.. and we pressed the wrong door bell *lucky no-one came out*.. but good thing was(i guess we were alil too loud) uncle happen to open the door while we walk pass.. *hee*

We went into the house and uncle told us to help him with the cleaning, and we have to leave by 1115am, cos he had to go somewhere nearby to collect his CNY goodie package (heard it’s distributed by some organization).. yup, its the first time i see uncle ‘commanding’ us to clean certain places like the kitchen flooring, his unwashed pots which he used to make ‘nian-gao’, and! area behind the side cupboard near the window.. hahax.. i guess cos its CNY, and he wants his house to be sparkling clean~

yup, so all of us started with the cleaning in an organized manner *grinz*..
Zhi Xian: Toilet
Jian Cheng: Pots and Pans
Cindy: Kitchen area
Hui Yi: Sweeping and mopping
Doris: Cleaning of living hall

We completed everything by 1050am.. super efficient! and we sat to chat with uncle for awhile.. Lavendar uncle made nian-gao of various sizes using banana leave.. its rilli very nice (appearance).. cindy asked us if it was peanut butter *faints*.. haha.. but it does look like some caramel candy.. hee* uncle even taught us the trick to keep ants off the nian gao, and it’s to apply oil at the rim.. according to uncle, ants are afraid of the smell of  oil..

uncle used to sell nian-gao at the mrt station.. a medium size one for $3, and the cost price is only $0.80! muz really agree that uncle is a good businessman.. imagine how much he can earn! hahax.. but i think the profit made from the sales cannot really ‘compensate’ the (physcially) hardship that he spends infront of the stove (12hrs) and also the preparation process. Uncle said that he shifted his machine to the kitchen while making the nian-gao, and he complains that he pants alot recently..=(

I personally feel that uncle is a very well-learned person.. he knows how to make nian-gao and also ‘ba-chang’.. if there’s one day that we are free, i think we should go learn a skill or 2 from him.. oh ya, and uncle said :” if you want to teach someone/impart your skills, you shouldnt be keeping any steps or secrets to yourself.. the skills should be imparted FULLY to ensure real success..  ” (rilli logical)

Uncle also decorated his house with ang pao packet bought by his room-mate.. oh, and uncle mentioned about needing help to wash the cushion covers and bedsheet before CNY (which i presume is next week sat), i guess what he wants is a last min cleaning, maybe we can all try arrange if there’s enough volunteers?

some side-tracks, we bought some cleaning items for the respective homes:
Outram: Toilet brush with handle
Bedok: Cleaning cloth (NEW)
Lavendar: Lavendar floor detergent

Please do let us know if there are other cleaning equipment needed for the various homes and we’ll try to work things out.. ^^

CSC Day was fun! but this shall be updated in the next post~! =) sayonara!
